Monogamy. Evolution tells us that we became monogamous because it was more beneficial for our offspring. But what about today? Today, I think one could argue monogamy simply because of exhaustion. It’s exhausting to go through opening (or prying, in my case) yourself up to another human being. Getting to know your ins and outs, nooks, crannies, crevasses. Who has time for that? I think after a while people get tired of going through that. I can’t imagine having someone else know me as much as my current significant other does. How much time and effort did I put into that? o.O

But, people do it all the time. People break up after years of dating, years of marriage. Sometimes we lose our other half too early in their/our life. And yet people move on. And go through that process all over again. Sometimes I just gotta commend us humans.

So what is it like to completely give yourself to more than one person? At different times? At the same time? Can we do the latter? I don’t even fucking know. Do we have enough of ourselves to share? Do we possess that stamina to do so? I suppose polygamists do, or people in group marriages. Or do they just not experience what it’s like to give yourself fully to one person? Or do they and the others are just not their fav? Do monogamous people even know what it’s like to hand yourself fully to one person?
